To the Editor:
Unfortunately the decision was made with little notice and even less discussion to raze the playground in front of the Lawrence Avenue Elementary School.
Over twenty years ago this playground was designed with input from the children of Potsdam. The whole community, individuals and businesses, came together to build it.
Over the years it has been a delight for many Potsdam children. Clayton has rebuilt theirs. Watertown is having Leathers and Associates come back to assess the condition of theirs and is contemplating updating it with modern materials.
It looks like we will be replacing it with a swing set. I am sorry that we lacked the imagination and will to update and rebuild the playground for the community’s children.
