To the Editor:
I love the train photograph from Natalie Aldrich that was on the front page of the March 25 issue of North Country This Week.
This is the 160th year of rail service on that line. It began in 1855 as the Potsdam and Watertown Railroad and has since operated under five other names: Rome, Watertown & Ogdensburg, New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail, and now CSX.
Passenger service ended in 1964, but it is a busy freight line with five or six trains each way, rolling through Canton and Potsdam at 40 mph.
Be wary at crossings.
