Phone found: let’s pass the kindness on

To the Editor:

I found a cell phone in the center of the parking lot of Auto Zone in Potsdam on Friday, March 6.

I actually had to swerve to avoid running over it. I really wanted to see this phone get back to its rightful owner. Myself being from out of town thought it would be so easy for me to take it up to the cell phone store and find the owner.

Once in the store, a worker looked up the owner and said "he didn't buy it here" so we can't contact him! They said I could leave it and if the owner came looking for it there, they would give it to him. Seams to me store policy is to sell a new one, not return one! I pressed harder and was told I could take it to the police station, so I asked where that was because I felt it was a better choice to get it to the rightful owner.

That was when a nice couple stepped away from the counter and he said he knew where the police station was. I told him I just wanted the owner to get his phone back. He said to me lets try to call someone on his contact, so in about three minutes we had contacted someone who knew who owned the phone and would tell him where to pick it up.

All this took about 15 minutes of time and saved the phones owner several hundred dollars. Why does a big company need to sell a new one?

Kindness should be on everyone’s mind, it felt good, let's pass the kindness on.
