To the Editor:
I am writing to support Sean O’Brien’s run for Canton Village Trustee. I served on the hiring committee at SUNY Canton that brought Sean to the North Country four years ago and I recently served as the chair of his reappointment committee at the college.
I’ve been through his professional credentials with a fine toothcomb and I’ve been impressed again and again by his achievements and his commitment to the North Country. Prior to joining the faculty at SUNY Canton, he was the Assistant Director of the esteemed Irish Studies program at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
When asked what made him want to leave such a notable position, he told us that his family went back six generations in St. Lawrence County and it was his dream to raise his two boys in our region.
We were very pleased to hire him at SUNY Canton where he has been dedicated to the students and has spearheaded the development of a new four-year program in Technological Communications.
He has jumped into our community with both feet and it’s rare to attend a local fundraiser or community event and not find him in attendance.
He currently serves on the Canton Planning Board and I encourage Canton Village voters to support his run for Village Trustee on voting day.
