Opinion: Think of long-term ramifications of proposed wind towers, says Hopkinton woman

To the Editor:

In the event you are unaware of, or undecided about, the proposed wind towers in the townships of Parishville and Hopkinton, please do consider the following.

If you drive to Burlington of Plattsburgh, you will see these monsters of the sky. Many, many of them. Up and above killing so many of our feathered friends and the hum/whirl of the blades as they turn or the blinking red lights that are constant at night.

Please consider the visual aspect of something so ugly and large in your own neighborhood. Five hundred feet into the sky is visible from long distances. In some areas they stretch as far as the eye can see and must be a huge distraction to people driving past them.

Research people who have allowed them and deeply regret the decision to do so. Google wind turbine syndrome and those who now suffer the ill effects from the vibration and constant hum. Bear in mind vegetation that is affected and sometimes destroyed beneath the towers as they surely must affect the natural patterns of our ecological system.

I myself suffer from tinnitus and the thought of additional noise of this magnitude is beyond depressing.

There are those who will benefit monetarily from leasing their land. Once the turbines are approved and erected there is little anyone can do if they are unhappy with them.

Remember the peace and quiet will be destroyed forever, along with property values declining in the vicinity of, and within viewing distance of these (monsters in the sky).

Please give consideration to the long-term ramifications of the wind turbines. Thank you.
