To the Editor:

It is important that we fly the American flag because it honors our veteran’s and the sacrifices that they have made. It is especially important that we display the stars and stripes on our patriotic holidays.

We are all aware that July 4th is a patriotic holiday. Do you know the other days that are patriotic holidays? Do you know which of those the flag should be at half staff? The following list is of the patriotic holidays:

• March 29th National Vietnam War Veterans Day

• May 1st Loyalty Day

• May 8th V-E Day

• May 15th Peace Officers Memorial Day (flag at half staff from sunrise to sunset)

• May 19th Armed Forces Day

• May 28th (observed) Memorial Day (flag at half staff from sunrise to noon)

• May 30th (Traditional) Memorial Day

• June 14th Flag Day

• July 4th Independence Day

• September 11th Patriot Day (flag at half staff from sunrise to sunset)

• September 17th Constitution Day

• September 21st POW/MIA Recognition day

• September 30th Gold Star Mother’s/Family Day

• October 7th Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day (flag at half staff from sunrise to sunset)

• November 11th Veteran’s Day

• December 7th Pearl Harbor Day (flag at half staff from sunrise to sunset)

On this years Independence Day please take a moment to remember the sacrifices that so many have made for us to be able to celebrate our freedom.
