Opinion: Sustained effort needed for positive change, say SUNY Potsdam faculty

To the Editor:

We, the SUNY Potsdam Branch of the International Socialist Organization (ISO), stand in solidarity with the student activists at SUNY Potsdam, who are courageously agitating for racial and social justice on campus and beyond.

These brave activists, especially those within the Black and LGBTQ community who have been recently targeted by the domestic terrorists among us, grasp only too well that even modest improvements cannot materialize without sustained pressure from below.

These efforts, which are part of a nationwide push by student activists and their allies from Missou to Princeton, go beyond managed containment and honestly address the systemic racism, sexism, ableism, and class discrimination endemic in our society.

Only through the sustained effort of these stalwart individuals, and the cooperation and support of the larger North Country community, will lasting positive change be achieved for all oppressed peoples here and nationwide.
