To the Editor:
Have you ever wondered about the galaxies and constellations, or wanted to learn how to line dance or play Maj Jongg? Have you ever been curious about the Lewis & Clark expedition or historical figures like Frederic Remington or Aaron Burr?
Like most people these days, you’ve probably been too busy pursuing a career, raising children or just too tired to pursue other areas of interest. Now that you’ve made it to the other side of your career, perhaps now is the perfect time to follow your curiosity and get involved with SOAR (Stimulating Opportunities After Retirement).
Twice a year SOAR offers more than 60 courses covering a wide range of topics, from serious subjects like climate change or estate planning for the elderly, to more fun courses like drawing and ballroom dancing.
SOAR is sponsored locally by SUNY Potsdam through the Center for Lifelong Education and Recreation. The courses offered range in length from one session to several that last the entire semester.
Courses are taught in various locations, including SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton, St. Lawrence University, Silas Wright House, and several other venues. Registration is already underway for the Fall semester which runs from 3 September to 9 November.
So, if you want to meet other lifelong learners and explore your curiosity about a wide range of subjects then SOAR is for you! We’re also looking for new presenters, so if you have a specific hobby or experience in a certain field then consider becoming a volunteer presenter.
For more information please visit the SOAR website at www.soarnorthcountry.org or email soar@potsdam.edu.
