Opinion: Potsdam Town Board candidate to focus on health and environment

To the Editor:

There are three Democrats running for two seats on the Town Board. On September 12, I urge you to vote for me so that I may have the honor of serving as a councilwoman for our town.

My husband, Will Trithart, grew up in Potsdam, and I’ve lived here for almost three years. We love this town and decided to put down roots. For me, that means being engaged in my community and making connections. For example, I am the chair of the Membership Committee for the Young Women’s Leadership Institute, a member of the Potsdam Food Co-op, and a board member for Cinema 10.

In my current position as internship coordinator for the Community Health Department at SUNY Potsdam, I am responsible for supporting students as they begin their careers as community health professionals and helping them make valuable community partnerships. As town councilwoman I will work with other council members to support the many initiatives that help to keep this community healthy.

I graduated from Clarkson with a masters in business administration in May, and my educational background will help me make sound financial decisions with my colleagues on the board. In addition, I will use the analytical and problem solving skills gained through that program to plan strategically for our town’s future, including ways to implement the recently passed Climate Smart Community pledge.

Remember to go vote in the primary on September 12 at the Town Offices (35 Market St) from 12-9pm. Bring friends and family! You need to be a registered Democrat in the Town of Potsdam to cast your vote. You can call the Board of Elections at 315-265-3430 to check to see whether you will be eligible to vote.

A vote for me is a vote for responsible use of taxpayer funds, the protection and improvement of our natural environment, and the promotion of the health of our community. I look forward to learning much and speaking with community members and leaders about ways to build on our town’s prosperity, sense of community, and welcoming spirit.

She is endorsed by the Working Families Party and the New York Social Justice PAC.
