To the Editor:
I am writing this letter to share my recent experience with the Town of Potsdam assessor’s office. As many know, there has been some turmoil in the assessor’s office.
Due to that turmoil, I assume, I never received my tentative assessment until 10 days after the grievance date. I doubt I am the only person having this issue.
When discussing this with the office, I was informed that even though they did not notify me 10-120 days before the grievance, as is the law, they are unwilling or unable to meet with me to discuss clear issues with the assessment and make any adjustments.
They told me it is my responsibility to know my tentative assessment value without being notified and I would have to pay my full taxes and might be able to discuss this issue in the next tax year. Needless to say, I am very disappointed and wondered how many other issues people have been having.
