October is National Physical Therapy month. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Physical Therapy staff at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center for a job well done.

The Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants and our secretary and volunteers who consistently go the extra mile for patients and their families.

Recently, a patient called to tell me that she was in the emergency room and her family was not able to be with her. She called the PT department, and one of our PT assistants was able to go to the emergency room and comfort her.

The patient told me that the hug and support given by our PT assistant helped her when she needed it. All of the Physical Therapy staff are dedicated to providing compassionate care.

The PT staff work well as a team: treating inpatients, outpatients, nursing home residents.

There is excellent communication between therapy staff, so the transition from inpatient to outpatient therapy is smooth.

The PTs and PTAs work continuously to improve their knowledge and skills and share what they learn with each other. Presently we have staff with advanced training in manual therapy, aquatic therapy, lymphedema, osteoporosis, urinary incontinence, peripheral neuropathy, nerve conduction studies, headaches, vestibular/ balance, and cardiac/ pulmonary rehabilitation, and Parkinson's disease.

When a patient who was in the hospital for a month in Syracuse needed to have further intensive therapy he was told by the staff at the hospital that Claxton Hepburn Medical Center had the best therapy north of Syracuse.

It is a pleasure to work with a staff that put patients and families first. Thank you for all you do for our customers and for making work fun.
