To the Editor:
As another Memorial Day passes another D Day is around the corner, June 6!
Each year there are fewer and fewer WWII Veterans. I encourage everyone that notices a WWII Veteran not only to thank them for their service, but ask them what they did in WWII?
You would be fascinated on some of the stories you would hear! I know I am!
I had the pleasure to serve twenty years in the Army.
In 2014 I had the pleasure to be a spectator and watch my Son pilot a C130J and drop paratroopers over Normandy France! It was the 70th anniversary invasion! My daughter in-law and I also visited the American Cemetery at Normandy.
As we both dazed at 9,000 plus American graves, there was a French family, the husband and wife were in their late thirties and they had two sons, age ten and twelve, I would say. The father spoke English very well. He asked me if we were American and I said yes. He said I do not know how to thank Americans that gave up so much so we could have our freedom!
I take my family here every year around D-Day to pay our respects and say thank you. It is important thank the younger generations, never forget.
I hope we never forget!
