Editor’s note: The plans for the trailer park have been pulled and officials have made no indication the intent was to house refugees. North Country Now published several articles covering the story prior to this letter’s submission.
To the Editor:
Wachs Development, LLC, of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania (owner of the Harte Haven Mall) has requested of the Massena Zoning Board a variance to permit the construction of a 300-site trailer park behind Harte Haven Mall and Tractor Supply and to allow these sites to be one-half the size permitted outside the village (30' x 100').
Why would such a proposal be made when there are houses up for sale all over Massena, rental apartments remain empty all over town, and there are few to no jobs available for such a potential influx of new arrivals?
Imagine the number of children that Massena will now be saddled with to foot the bill for their education. It happened in Utica and that city has had to sue the State to help with the huge increase in educational costs.
A Massena Zoning Board Meeting will be held on December 19 at 5:10 p.m. in the town hall, second floor boardroom. Anyone opposed to the issuance of a variance to allow this 300-site trailer park to be built in Massena should show up.
A massive showing may be needed to stop this. Funny, none of the media has even tried to cover this. What are they all hiding? Maybe 1,000 Syrian refugees?
