To the Editor:
President Trump: congratulations on your victory in the November election.
I didn't vote for you. I voted for Hillary Clinton. I agree with many of your ideas. I don't agree with your method of delivery. I am small town. You are big city. I come from two blue-collar parents - which still brings me incredible pride. You come from a class of people that many wish to aspire to belong. I'm okay being me.
Let's do our best to get off on the right foot. You are my president and I will respect you. I like many of your cabinet appointments. I agree with your mantra that the political machine needs to be tamed. I like your idea of putting America first. I want to see some changes. I also kind of like the country I live in now.
Please do your best to balance your boardroom approach with the framework that people a lot smarter than you and I could ever dream of putting in place. While in Washington, visit the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial and Marin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.
Please take the time to read the words inscribed on the granite at each of these incredible edifices. They are sobering and they are not spoken in boardrooms. They are etched in granite because they are the truth. They are not minutes of meetings that can be shredded or altered.
Please take the time to remember the unintended consequences of your words and actions. Every action has a reaction. They key is to limit the reaction, or at least recognize the effect. Hopefully you will understand that your decisions affect people living paycheck to paycheck - even if that paycheck is government sponsored.
Good luck. I am supporting you. But I am watching you too.
