Opinion: Huge contrast between Stefanik and Cobb, Winthrop resident says

This November midterm we get to choose between Tedra Cobb and Elise Stefanik to be our congressional representative.

The term representative means that the person represents the district. Tedra Cobb does just that! She has deep, wide roots here from 30 years of service, which now translates to 1l600 volunteers, sacrificing time and energy to help get her elected.

Her life history reflects the life history of many of us so she understands our struggles.

Finally, Tedra’s successful effort leading to the passage of St. Lawrence County’s Ethics bill proves her integrity.

In stark contrast is Stefanik, whose life experience is one of privilege. According to Wikipedia, after private schooling in Albany she went onto Harvard and then right to Washington DC and worked in the GW Bush white house. After managing Paul Ryan debate prep for the 2012 Vice Presidential campaign, she moved back to Albany and her family’s lumber business.

The following year after claiming the half million-dollar family vacation home in Willboro as her home address she announced her candidacy. Her wealthy connections from Washington helped finance her campaign.

Stefanik’s life experience does not reflect the life experience of most of the 21st district. How many of us went to private school and never held a job outside of politics? How many of us enjoy a vacation home on a lake? How does someone represent you when they don’t share your life experience or even know you? She won’t even show up for town halls! She gets loads of money from corporate PACS and votes in their favor, not ours.

Tedra does not accept donations from corporate PACS.

There are many reasons people don’t vote. I know one is that people don’t know the person running. I hope this helps.
