Opinion: Hopkinton man wants legislators to pass resolution opposing industrial wind turbines

In response to "St. Lawrence County Legislators table resolution to support Fort Drum's opposition to wind development" posted Jan. 1, 2018 on North Country Now: I respect the fact that St. Lawrence County Legislators have taken the time to consider the effects that the closing of Fort Drum would have on our county, the North Country and the thousands of service members, civilians and their families.

I urge the board to pass a resolution opposing industrial wind turbines near Fort Drum and its training airspace. I would question any legislator's willingness to risk what has been called the "economic engine of the North Country" for the financial gain of a handful of individuals.

Big wind has a track record of making promises, deals and eventually signing leases with local and county officials, securing their support to help push projects through. I would hope that any legislator that has either discussed a lease or would consider leasing land for turbines recognize the conflict and recuse themselves from any related votes.

I also question any legislator's willingness to support a PILOT when the tax paying pubic receives no such considerations.
