Opinion: Hopkinton election needs to unite community, says town council candidate

For everyone in Hopkinton and Parishville: The election is coming up and as you know I (Janice Pease) am running for a town councilwoman seat. I am working toward the goal of being elected. My intention is, of course, to win and be the voice of people who feel they do not have one to represent them, I look forward to that task.

In the mean time...whether I get elected or not depends on the will of the people and the town overall. I ask that those of you who support my election be part of the process as it may take more than my effort to get elected.

I will be going door to door soon, but in the mean time I am asking all of you to really make an effort to bring this community together, talk to your neighbors and explain why you want me on the town board, why you support me, and what you think is needed in this town.

I think I have demonstrated a will to work hard for this town and for the people.

This needs to be a community effort, as many people, although registered, do not get out and vote. Please talk to your friends and relatives and implore them to help make the change that is needed. There are 600 voters on the list, each of them is tasked with getting themselves to the polls, but every election only about half do. (I think I read it is something like 60% that vote).

Please help me increase that number. A Hopkinton man told me about an election where he/ his wife were the last voters and their vote broke the tie...by 1 vote...so yes, every vote counts!

When I win this I want it to be because the town overwhelmingly supports me. Whomever wins this election has their work cut out for them and is going to need the public behind them...these issues are very polarizing. Please go visit/call your friends, neighbors, relatives and reach out.

Find out if they understand what this election means, about the project, and which candidates are in favor of the project and which are in favor of safer setbacks/ sound limits.

Friend them on Facebook and when election time gets closer send out reminders. As a community we can come together and become a force to be reckoned with.
