Opinion: Drought coming to St. Lawrence County, Heuvelton man says

To the Editor:

I’m sort of a neophyte weather-watcher these days, but in general there have been articles a couple of weeks ago warning of coming droughts, starting in the Midwest and making their way to the East Coast, especially the NY and surrounding states to the east, west, and south of us. Reading the referenced article in the Subject Line prompted me to write about this:

Those articles, and I cannot find the URLs now, indicated that we in NY are expected to have droughts starting in June onward for the rest of the year. They indicated that we would be in a full blown drought in this area by mid-July.

From the research I’ve done, this is the most legitimate seeming set of information on NY’s drought written so it’s easy to understand. https://newfoodeconomy.org/new-york-state-drought-monitor/

From the many other sites available, which I discounted, they all either had the exact same maps and text for the drought, as though it was really only one site that sent its information to so many other sites that they aren’t legitimate at all. OTOH, there were many other sites that apparently weren’t legit either because they differed in the information they had for the drought, as though they were simply neophytes like me, but trying to look important by making their own guesses. They disagreed on several major areas, thus ruining their legitimacy to me.

While many of the maps had only central and southern/eastern droughts in NY, one must keep in mind that drought areas move around a lot, and expand unexpectedly as time goes by.
