Opinion: Couple assists woman after dog passes away in Canton

Early Monday morning (about 5:30 a.m. on March 27) I was out walking my dog, Lily, on Main Street when my little angel suffered cardiac arrest. I picked her up in my arms and tried to revive her to no avail.

I looked around for help, and a lovely couple came running across the street to see if they could assist. We took Lily to the Canton Police Station and rang the bell at the rear of the building. No one responded to us. Since none of us had our cell phones handy, there was no one else we could contact. I don't know when I have felt so alone. If not for this couple I would have had to carry my dog all the way home.

They ran to get their car and drove me to the Canton Vet Clinic. Unfortunately Lily had passed and there was nothing to be done. The kind gentleman said a heartfelt prayer over Lily as I said my goodbyes. Then they drove me home and assisted me to my front door so I could wrap Lily in a blanket.

I don't know who these people were...I was too distraught to ask. Maybe I was not meant to know...angels in the night I guess. However, if they are reading this I want them to know how much their help meant to me.

God bless both of you and my little Lily.
