Opinion: Consider donating to C.OR.C. Thrift Store, says Potsdam woman

To the Editor:

Most people in our community are familiar with the C.OR.C. Thrift Store. For over 40 years the C.O.R.C. (Council of Religious Concern) Thrift Store at 8 Willow Street has served Potsdam and the surrounding towns.

They provide good quality used clothing at great prices and have removed an amazing 15 tons of unsalable clothing yearly from the waste stream through recycling efforts.

The heart of the C.O.R.C. mission is to provide vouchers to families in need which they do annually in the amount of over $3,500.

We serve approximately 600 children yearly through these vouchers which can be obtained at the store or at many of the local outreach organizations.

In the past couple years the store has struggled to make ends meet. They have had to cut back their small, dedicated staff. They are in need of handicap access, better parking, building repairs and more space.

As you consider year-end gifts, please remember this very valuable part of our community.
