Opinion: Canton man backs Vollmer for St. Lawrence County Legislature

To the Editor:

I am writing to support my friend and colleague Tim Vollmer in his race for a seat in the St Lawrence County Legislature. The local public servants that serve on village boards, town councils, and county legislatures labor on, largely unsung, in the administration of our local affairs, managing budgets, establishing policies that impact our daily lives in direct and measurable ways.

As we approach this election, I feel compelled to advocate for Tim, because we need more people in politics that have the mindset and values that Tim has. Tim is rational, level-headed, and data driven. He will support and advocate for the health of our community in all areas - infrastructure, services, and policy - without miring the discussion in the animosity that plagues our national politics. Tim is honest, trustworthy, friendly, kind, thrifty, and responsible. Tim is sharp and forward thinking, able to identify the implications of decisions in the many dimensions that are important for us to consider as we wield the levers of government.

As he grew up on a farm, in a farming community, he understands the headwinds our rural county faces. His work in local business has demonstrated his awareness of the complexities businesses face these days. His involvement in the community has shown that he has a heart for helping make our community a better place.

Furthermore, in a political environment where those who are best suited to serve our communities in politics recoil from the idea, I admire and support Tim in this endeavor because he has chosen to engage in our local government with all of the best virtues of patriotism and pride in our democracy, irrespective of the problems that come along with entering public life as a legislator in government.

We need more people like Tim Vollmer on our boards and councils, and in our legislatures. Please vote for Tim - he will bring the right things to the table.
