Opinion: Canton Goldenaires thankful for ‘singing Valentine’ support

To the Editor:

The Canton Goldenaires would like to take this opportunity to thank the St. Lawrence County public for making last weeks “singing valentine” deliveries so special…not only was the weather good, but it was a fun day for our three quartets. Over 45 deliveries were made, and there were many special moments(even with the onlookers and listeners). All monies collected will go to seniors who will be going to college and have an interest in music(i.e. good experiences in their school plays; orchestras, choruses or community shows). What these seniors have to do now is to check with their choral or orchestra directors, or guidance counselors to get details to apply for an award. Last year there were 16 applicants and 5 scholarships were awarded. If you know of a senior who is headed for college and is musically inclined…encourage them to apply.

The Goldenaires also want to thank Kinney’s Drugs for providing the boxes of chocolates…and the Canton Price Chopper and florists for donating roses for our special day. Without the help from Bailey’s Florist; White’s Flowers in Canton; Basta’s Flowers and Gifts in Ogdensburg; and the Willow Tree Florist in Potsdam, we would have a major expense. Thank you each for your generosity.

The Canton Goldenaires are a men’s barbershop chorus made up of singers from all over the county…and we are always looking for others who enjoy singing, community service, and who like to have fun. We practice every Monday night at Partridge Knoll in Canton from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. We even go out for pizza the last Monday of the month! Come sit and sing with us and help us to “Keep the Whole World Singing!”
