To the Editor:
I am writing this letter to attempt to clear up what I feel are some misconceptions concerning the Bassmasters fishing events that have been and will be held in the Village of Waddington.
First of all these events have not been "put on" by the Village of Waddington, the village has provided the venue for the event to take place and guaranteed the Bass Master contract when the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce decided they could not.
The events have been put on by a dedicated group of volunteers that have worked tirelessly to organize, fund and do everything else that is required to make these events a reality.
There is no question that the impact of these events extends beyond the boundaries of the Village of Waddington and if they are to continue the support (both monetary and staffing) needs to come from sources beyond the Village of Waddington also.
This is not the Waddington Bass Masters, it is the Northern NY Bass Masters, and as such it must be a regional, cooperative effort or it will not continue to succeed.
You as St. Lawrence County legislators must decide whether or not the impact this event has on St. Lawrence County as a whole, both in terms of dollars generated and national exposure warrants your support, please make an intelligent, informed decision.
