Ogdensburg Cub Scouts gearing up for new year

Posted

To the Editor,

The Cub Scout Program is alive and well in Ogdensburg. Pack 2 is gearing up for another year of fun and adventure.

Some of the highlights our Pack participates in are hiking, Day Camp, overnight camping, Pinewood and Soapbox Derby races, and the Memorial and Flag Day Parades. We also instill in the boys the importance of community service with food drives, litter pick-ups, helping the Salvation Army at holiday time, and visits to the St. Joseph Nursing Home.

We want to thank the following businesses and organizations for supporting us: Price Chopper for gift cards toward the purchase of food for camping, New York State Corrections Officers and Police Benevolent Association for purchasing flags, Wal-Mart for hosting our food drives, YesterYear's Vintage Doors for donating wood for our "Web Site" project, and the First United Methodist Church for being our Chartered Organization and providing a safe environment for our meetings.

Because of all your support, we are able to provide a successful program at an affordable cost.

We are also thankful we have state parks in the area for camping, hiking, and fishing.

The Cub Scouts have also enjoyed trips to SLU hockey games, the SLU climbing wall, Snye's Greenhouse, Cornell Cooperative Extention, the OFA Planetarium, and T.V., radio, and fire stations.

Each of these outings have been fun and educational.

We want to thank the VFW Ladies Auxillary in advance for sponsoring a spaghetti dinner for us at the VFW on September 29.

This dinner will help Pack 2 purchase books and uniform patches for this coming year.

Pack 2 will hold registration at the Methodist Church, Caroline St., Thursday, Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Mary at 393-5432.
