Time to wear your red!
On Tuesday, April 14, 2015 Ogdensburg area Zonta Club and thousands of women from across the united states will join in a national day called equal pay day.
The date symbolizes how far into a new year women in the US must work (one year plus 104 days) to earn what men earned in a standard year..
This gender wage gap puts women at a career long disadvantage. In 2010 women earned 81% of what their male counterpart did. Economist Evelyn Murphy estimates that the wage gap costs the average woman $700,000- $2 million in her lifetime.
We can take action in St. Lawrence County and join others to educate women and men about pay inequality. On Tuesday, April 14th, 2015 when you wear red you are helping shed light on very important topic. So start a conversation, post on Facebook, research the topic!
We are making progress but any gap in unacceptable!
