To the Editor:

Last month (April 16) the North Country lost a very important literary figure. Dr. Maurice Kenny, a renowned Mohawk poet died in Saranac Lake Hospital at the age of 86.

Dr. Kenny’s volume of work is impressive and his influence to other writers perhaps profound.

Best know for “The Mama Poems” his work on prose is equally insightful and imaginative.

Always witty, charming, hospitable and gregarious. Maurice was always eager to share his ideas, writing and life experience.

Born here in the North Country, he travelled widely before returning to teach at North Country Community College and SUNY Potsdam.

If you haven’t discovered this native treasure, you can find his published works at Amazon.

We will miss you Maurice.
