North Country Assemblyman is weak on issues that matter to us, says 118th Assembly District candidate

To the Editor:

I attended a GOP event Thursday, April 28.

In attendance were other candidates vying for office as well as our current Assemblyman Marc Butler. We each were allowed to have a few minutes to talk about ourselves and the issues.

I wanted to engage Marc Butler in conversation about the issues so I asked, "Marc help me out here, who is JoAnne Simon?” Marc looked directly at me, he clearly didn't know. I wanted to give him a chance to show that he is aware of what is going on in the assembly. Marc Butler said nothing and looked bewildered. I actually felt embarrassed for him.

Hearing nothing from Marc I continued to inform the audience about JoAnne Simon and Roxanne Persaud. JoAnne Simon (D) is an assemblywoman of twelve years. She submitted three bills to the assembly (A-09340, A-09341 and A-01747) that aim to attack the 2nd Amendment. These bills were co-sponsored by Democrat Roxanne Persaud, a NYS Senator. I have been out in front of this issue since February. One could argue that these bills are worse than the Safe Act because they are attacking ammunition sales. What good is a gun if there is no ammunition for it? These three bills are written as to confuse anyone from attempting to sell ammunition in fear of committing a felony.

The war on the constitution is still raging and our assemblyman Marc Butler has no idea what is going on. Marc Butler is weak on the issues that matter to so many of us. When elected I will know every assemblyperson and I will also know how they vote. I will ensure that I know of every bill that is submitted so that I am informed and then can inform you, the people I will be representing. Being unaware is an unacceptable excuse for a 20 plus year incumbent, and sadly it’s a trend.
