Nelson provides leadership Ogdensburg needs

To the Editor:

I do not normally get involved in politics. However, I feel compelled to write this letter in support of Bill Nelson, my friend, our Mayor.

I have had the privilege of knowing Bill for 24 years. Bill is someone I know I can trust. I have seen and continue to see firsthand his dedication and commitment to the City of Ogdensburg.

I can state with certainty when he makes decisions concerning our community, he does so with the community in mind, not for a personal agenda.

I feel it is important to remind our citizens how much Mayor Bill Nelson has accomplished for the City of Ogdensburg throughout his two terms as Mayor.

The Dobisky Center, a beautiful focal point of our riverfront, was built and continues to improve each year.

The building is utilized by organizations and community members on a daily basis. I have had the pleasure of using the building numerous times.

It also provides a great place for tourists, especially the boaters to visit. All of these uses and visits generate revenue for our community.

He has also sought improvements in the beautification of our city by focusing the improvements to Ford Street by offering grants to the citizens. I also see progress on Main Street, Paterson Street and other areas of our city.

The Diamond Site is now cleaned up and once sold to a developer this will increase our tax base.

The Standard Shade Roller is also on the same path toward clean up and redevelopment. This is major growth.

I commend Mayor Nelson for his vision and perseverance. I know that with every project comes good and bad, and Bill has focused on finding the good in situations.

It is crucial we have someone who has leadership experience at a time when so much change is in our future.

Mayor Nelson has the experience this position requires to be successful.

He began his journey in politics 18 years ago as a council member, where he learned the ropes. After becoming well-informed, he decided to run for Mayor and won.

His 18 years experience and dedication cannot be replaced by any other candidate. As our City Council takes on new faces and ideas, a strong and knowledgeable Mayor is a necessity.

Bill Nelson is the leadership we need to continue to work towards a better city.

Please join me in voting for the only candidate with experience, leadership and proven commitment to our City.
