Moses Nature Center cleanup a success

The Friends of the Robert Moses State Park Nature Center and the Nature Center Staff would like to thank the 54 volunteers that made our annual Clean Up Day on Oct. 16 a huge success! Thanks to Lauri Marr’s organizational work, we had plenty of Alcoa employees come to volunteer their time so we would receive an Alcoa Action Grant of $3000. Volunteers helped to clean up the gardens, trails, grounds and indoor facility at the beach. Perennials were transplanted from the burned Nature Center area to the paved trail area, 2 new interpretive panels were installed, woodchips were added to trails and much more.

Big thanks go out to Lori Cope, Ruth Truax, Charlene Dumas and her family for providing fantastic homemade soups, sandwiches, cookies and mulled cider for the hard-working volunteers. Thanks also go out to the Massena High School Environmental Education Club for coming out to volunteer all day.

We hope that the community will continue to support the Nature Center during these trying times. Our future is bright and we are excited to have a new facility in the next two years! We wish to invite the public to attend our monthly Friends Group meetings as well as any of our scheduled events. Our temporary location changes and much more will continue to be updated on the Friends of the Nature Center’s website at: www.nynaturecenter.org.
