To the Editor:
On National Make A Difference Day, Saturday, October 25th, the VFW Post 1231 Ladies Auxiliary promoted their project to be a mile of quarters with the proceeds collected to go to Wounded Warriors.
On behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary, I want to say thank you to all of the wonderful people who donated quarters to our Mile of Quarters event. Although we did not reach our mile, we sure made some strides to it. We reached 146 feet.
I want to recognize Mayor Mary Ann Ashley for her generous donation. Also, to Sandra Merchant for her donation in memory of her husband Richard E. Merchant. She advised me that Richard always saved his quarters throughout the year and at year end would donate them to a military or veterans' cause.
Our donation was presented on Veteran's Day to Bob Giordano, president of the Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures.
Again, thank you all so much!
Joan Dox
Mile of Quarters Chairman
