McDonnell seeks support in race for Canton Village Board

To the Editor:

I’m asking the people of Canton to support me in my bid for election to the Canton Village Board.

If elected I will work toward prioritization and consolidation of village and town services. I believe the Board should find ways to ease the tax burden on the private sector in the Village. With shrinking County and State funding, creativity and vision will be needed to combat Canton’s disproportionate tax-base.

Economic benefit and tax-relieving revenue can be found in waterfront revitalization, seasonal tourism, collaboration with colleges, and business incentives within the Village. I will encourage collaboration and communication between the Town Board, Village Board, shared employees, and the community. I will encourage a dedication to community input to accomplish sensible, sustainable, economic development.

I will insist upon fiscal responsibility and work toward a balanced budget. I will continue the Board’s important work in developing fair and equitable contracts with the Canton Police and Public Works Departments.

Like many in the village, I have lived and worked in other parts of the country, but returned with my wife Emily to the North Country to live and raise our young family. For the past seven years I have been employed at SLU, currently as the Associate Director to the Outdoor Program.

If the Village Board is to represent the interests of the community, I believe a Board member in my stage of life is critical. I am invested in the vitality and success of our community fiscally, economically, and recreationally. A vibrant local economy is paramount to young professionals and families staying in the Village of Canton.

While I may not have decades of life experience in Canton behind me, my family and I hope to have decades of life in Canton ahead of us, and for this reason I am personally dedicated to making the Village of Canton a great place to live.

Please consider me for the Canton Village Board on Nov. 6

Dan McDonnell, Canton
