To the Editor:
This Thursday, October 30, is the Advisory Referendum (Straw Vote) for the Canton/Potsdam Central school merger.
If the merger is approved by both communities during the advisory referendum, the process will proceed with a final vote on December 16, 2014.
Polls are open from 9 am to 9 pm in the Canton High School LRC and Potsdam High School Auditorium.
The purpose of this letter is to encourage Canton and Potsdam residents to vote on this extremely important issue. The results, either way, are going to directly impact the educational programs, our students and families, school staff and communities as a whole in a significant way.
Appreciation is extended to Superintendents Bill Gregory and Pat Brady for their leadership through this exhausting process.
The merger committee is also to be commended for taking the time to participate, give input and discuss the issues.
Now it is up to the voters to decide the fate of our public educational structures in Canton and Potsdam.
Mary Ann Ashley
Mayor, Village of Canton
