To the Editor:
To the Massena Village residents: In the words of the great president Ronald Reagan, “Well Nancy, here we go again.”
In a most recent article in the Massena Observer, the implication was made that I categorized union members as “uneducated” when in fact nothing could be more untrue.
What I did say was “if being endorsed by the labor council means that I have to give up the courage to govern in the interest of all people in the village of Massena, I would rather put my fate in the hands of educated voters and not people who have been told by these organizations how to vote.”
I’m the son of a 32-year UAW member, a relative of current and former union members and a friend to many union members. It is an absolute joke to think I would classify them as uneducated.
For Mr. Currier to make the twisted statement he made in Sunday’s edition of the Advance Newspaper was careless and irresponsible. I suppose when one paints himself into a corner false and twisted statements rain down.
I again would remind Mr. Currier his comments work against the grain of “mudslinging, negative campaigning and character assignation” he had pledged he would refrain from.
In my four years as Mayor, I’ve come to know Mr. Currier as a competent police chief, a close working associate and good family man.
However, I think he may be coached by the “good old boys” who possess very little or no scruples and are hell bent on control.
Massena can’t afford another yes man.
James F. Hidy
