Mayor faces challenges head on; made progress, says Massena resident

To the Editor:

Hats off to Mr. Hidy for the fine job he does as our mayor.

With elections near, I ask people to look at the how Mr. Hidy has worked to improve our community. He faced many challenges when he took office, as our loss of industries, jobless people, poor economy, increase in crime and increase in those on public assistance are all consequences a town faces as it moves from an industrial community to a retail community.

Mr. Hidy faced those challenges head on. Through his determined efforts, he has cleaned up many of the buildings that have been neglected eyesores for a long time. He worked closely with the DA last year, requesting stricter bails for those who pose a serious threat to our community. He met head on with the Social Service Dept. questioning our significant increase of new recipients being directed to Massena. And, most recently he questioned Judge Richard’s release of persons who pose a threat to our community. Is this not a man who cares about this town?

This is exactly what we need, someone who is aggressive, determined, and committed to doing what is best for the whole community, not just a select few. It has been said before, you are bound to make enemies if your job is to make sure others do theirs!

Four years is a very short time to clean up what has been let go for several years. Mr. Hidy has formed rapports with many in his efforts to bring back Massena.

What we don’t need is to start all over again. He has made a lot of improvements, made people accountable, and committed himself to doing all he can to make people proud to call Massena home.

This election should not be about who has more friends or more signs, but rather who will exert the time, energy, aggressiveness, and determination needed to continue cleaning up all aspects of our community.

I believe Mayor Hidy has exhibited all of the above.
