To the Editor:
My sincerest thanks to GardenShare and SLU Volunteer Services for sponsoring the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Food Drive.
We were thrilled to learn that the Potsdam Snack Pack Program would be one of the beneficiaries of the community food drive.
Thanks to the organizing efforts of the GardenShare team led by Rhonda Rodriguez, the Volunteer Coordinator, the food drive was a big success. We collected 306 items for the Snack Pack program and restocked our food pantry.
Since the launch of the program in November 2016, we have provided 600 snack packs to Potsdam Central School District students.
I continue to be encouraged and grateful to the community for embracing this fledgling program. Food insecurity is a major concern in St. Lawrence County, and the commitment of organizations like GardenShare to increase awareness and provide resources to address this critical issue is truly commendable.
