Loud music, revving cars ruining sleep in Ogdensburg

To the Editor:

I am a resident of Riverview Towers and want to let the city and counselors know many residents here are disgusted with the goings-on around our home.

The residents would like security camera showing the things that go in the Green Belt, City docks and around our home, and the destruction of city property.

People think when they turn the corner from State Street onto Washington that it's a speedway. It is 30 mph until they hit the 40 mph speed sign. The noise is horrifying. The squealing of tired, racing of cars and trucks, very loud exhaust and motorcycles too.

We want our young people to enjoy their vehicles but why do we have to endure it?

A resident has died in front of the towers, hit by a car.

We call the police, they may patrol, but as soon as they leave it starts again…especially when they close the city docks they go over to the Mosiac parking lot with loud music and revving of engines all hours of the night. We close our windows but can still hear it.

Why can’t we have our windows open for fresh air? A lot of elderly people live at the towers and that's all we talk about…them disturbing our sleep and lives.

Security cameras would help so police can see for themselves.

Be respectful. Please. We deserve peace and quiet; especially at bedtime.

We are asking for help and understanding from the City. Put cameras up to see for yourselves, come sit with us in the gazebo and see what we go through day and night.

People are afraid to attend council meetings in fear of retaliation. Why must we be afraid?

This city has gone to hell in a hand basket. Riverview residents are not the only people to complain; other city residents are sick of it too.

Our complaints need to be addressed and police need to be forceful.

Don’t get me wrong, the police are great with most problems, but not all. We have the utmost respect of our police department.

Back in our day if we had loud exhaust we were given tickets.
