To the Editor:
I’ve been a registered Green for the past two years, and I can’t tell you how happy I was to hear that the state Green Party disowned Donald Hassig’s campaign, after he made comments contrary to the Green Party platform. Personally, I think that Hassig’s campaign is the worst thing to happen to the Green Party since its foundation in the 1970s. His campaign, which focuses solely on environmental issues (POPs), seems to completely ignore other issues that are more pressing, such as the massive unemployment in this state and rampant poverty.
But politics aside, Hassig is one of the worst local candidates I’ve ever seen run for office. Showing up to debates wearing a polo shirt, dancing like a madman as a form of protest, and having an unkempt appearance is not a good way to run a campaign. I usually vote third party, but Bill Owens seems like the lesser of three evils in this race.
