Library levy vote added to Madrid-Waddington School District Ballot

To the Editor:

As many of you are aware by now, the Waddington Hepburn Library Board submitted a petition to be placed on the May 17, Madrid-Waddington Central School Ballot.

Proposition 5 requests the voters of the school district to approve the collection of a tax levy to assist them in the operation of their library. This proposition, if approved, means that an annual levy will be collected on behalf of the library.

Unfortunately, the approval of this proposition would require all taxpayers residing in the school district to contribute. This means that you, as a taxpayer in Madrid, will be required to help pay for another town’s library.

The Town Board of Madrid and the Madrid Hepburn Library Board have continued to work together to not only ensure the success of our library’s goals and objectives but also manage our fiscal resources and your tax dollars in a judicious and proper manner. This is an issue that should be resolved through the Town Board of Waddington and the Waddington Hepburn Library Board.

Therefore I urge all taxpayers of the Town of Madrid who reside in the Madrid-Waddington Central School District to vote no on proposition 5 on next week’s school ballot.
