Leave government out of healthcare

To the Editor:

Regarding recent comments on the Catholic Church and Health Care controversy, I have the following 2 main points:

First, anger at the Catholic Church leaders and institution is justly deserved; the sexual abuse cases were badly handled.

However, I would hope the reader is also angry at schools (most recently Penn State and Syracuse U) and school districts who have taken similar approaches with coaches and teachers.

Then there are fathers, step-fathers and especially live-in boyfriends who sexually abuse. Don't forget our lawmakers, including presidents! The problem of sexual abuse is a societal problem and a more serious and comprehensive discussion of it is needed and not just targeting one group because we don't want to look at ourselves or because there's an ax to grind against the group.

Second, the writer references the Patient Protection and Health Care Affordability Act--in Massachusetts, the model for Obamacare, over 90% of the citizens had health insurance.

Because of the mandates, I understand that insurance rates and health costs increased over 30%.

This is a great example of the law of diminishing returns for all that upheaval was done to help only about 5% of Massachusetts residents--2-3% are STILL uncovered!

Eventually, insurance will be so UNaffordable for all that the government will completely take it over and there will be NO choice, no voice for anyone.

That seems to be what the Democrats really want and voted for.

If you don't want religion in your sex life, you shouldn't want the government in it either.

It is our right of privacy and therefore should be privately paid for if we are to be consistent.

This brings us back to Bishop LaValley and any religious denomination--the issue is religious freedom and liberty. If that goes, then there is no freedom in the U.S.
