Kiwanis Club of Potsdam looking for community members to get involved with program

To the Editor:

Whether you’re retired, working a day job, evening or night shift or self employed, make an effort to come visit us at the Ponderosa Restaurant, Tuesday, March 27 at 6 p.m. You may be surprised to see that there’s a program or event to help our Potsdam area youth groups that appeals to you and can become involve your participation.

There are at least a dozen or more programs/events/fundraisers that benefit our youth from pre-school Head Start Reading Program to High School Graduating Student Scholarship(s).

Here are a few for starters: Service Leadership Program (K-Kids, Builders Club, Key Club and Circle K (College Attendees); Head Start Reading Program at Potsdam and Parishville School Districts; Senior Scholarship Fund, Rag-A-Muffin Parade (Halloween), Giving Trees (for the Potsdam Holiday Fund), Highway and Local Parks Clean-up days, School Supply Collection and Food Drives, plus other numerous events.

Our Club Fundraisers include, but not limited to, Annual Pancake Breakfast, Seasonal McDonald’s Nights, Krispy Kreme Donuts and Arby’s Coupon Book Sales; Coin Jars (placed in supporting merchant’s establishments to raise funds for reading and scholarship programs), and finally entertainment such as hosting once again the return of the Harlem Ambassadors Basketball Team Vs Potsdam Basketball Players.

Saturday, April 7, 2018 – Kiwanis Club of Potsdam members and available Builders Club, Key Club and Circle K members shall be working together to offer up their delicious Annual “All-You-Can-Eat” Pancake Breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 26 Main St., Potsdam. The cost is $8 Adults, Seniors & Kids $6, and children under 5 FREE. Look for postings at our local merchant supporters.

Breakfast includes: Pancakes with choice of plain, blueberries or chocolate chips, real local Maple Syrup, scrambled eggs, French Toast, bacon or sausage, choice of Orange Juice, milk, coffee or hot tea.

Monday, March 19, 2018 – The Kiwanis Club of Potsdam placed large plastic jugs at designated supporting merchants (Roxy Theater, Chilly Delights, Three Bears Bakery, Soul Waffle, McDuff’s, Adirondack Federal Credit Union, St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union, Cactus Grill & Cantina and West Stockholm Village Market) to accept donations toward funding 2018 Kiwanis Award Scholarship to a worthy Potsdam Senior student in the upcoming June Ceremony. The theme this year is: A Little change… can make a big change! Pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters or even currency, will gratefully be accepted to help fund this worthy cause. Please give what you can… and “Thank You” from all of us at the Kiwanis Club of Potsdam.
