Kids not following orders is healthy and American, says Potsdam resident

To the Editor:

It is entirely healthy, appropriate, productive and American if kids are learning it's ok to not follow orders.

There are plenty of ways of offering opportunities besides mandating these inappropriate tests.

I hope future leaders are especially oriented toward, and skilled at not following orders. Maybe best if they are genuinely honest, imaginative, demanding, ethical, and acting for the benefit of everyone.

None of these qualities in a leader has anything to do with 'running the gauntlet' of these tests, which dis-empower teachers, reduce actual teaching and learning time, and leave most kids feeling like failures, because they cannot pass these tests.
