To the Editor:
My name is Kevin Felt and I am the current deputy treasurer for St. Lawrence County. I will be in the Republican primary for county treasurer on Tuesday, Sept. 14. I ask for your support in electing the person that has been working as the deputy treasurer for almost two years and has over 11 years of accounting experience.
The duties of the treasurer are one of fiscal accountability to the taxpayers of the county and to the Board of Legislators. The treasurer manages the treasurer’s office in the collection of taxes and fees, reconciles the county finances, prepares for the county’s annual financial audit, oversees the payroll operations, and provides financial analysis for the Board of Legislators. It is also important to point out that although the treasurer does collect property taxes, they do not have the power to lower taxes. This is a function of the Board of Legislators.
As I knock on doors around the county, I’m reminded why this position is elected. The people of the county get to choose the person that they can trust to make sure their tax dollars are secure and invested safely. My goal is to be your next treasurer, with the hopes of continuing as your treasurer for the next 20-plus years.
I hope that I can count on your vote on the Republican primary day, Tuesday, Sept. 14.
Kevin Felt
