To the Editor:
In response to “Issues with Potsdam Assessor’s Office?” which appeared in the June 14-20 issue of North Country This Week.
Residents have until July 31 to file a small claims petition. Based on what information you have provided in your brief letter to the editor, it would seem you have grounds for a claim.
There is information available for a SCAR (Small Claims Assessment Review) petition at the town office, the county office of real property and on line. Here is the website that will get you started: https://www.nycourts.gov/litigants/scar/.
Follow the links on this page for all the forms and information you will need to complete your claim.
Everyone who has had a change of assessment without due process from the assessor’s office has the ability to further seek relief.
I hope you are successful in your efforts. Remember, silence and compliance is what allows such over reach and disregard for citizens.
