HEAP survey comments bitter; residents might have reason to feel that way, says Heuvelton man

To the Editor:

In response to “Waddington Woman Disappointed With Attitude From Recent HEAP Survey Comments,” I have to agree with you.

However, to be fair, there a few who feel cheated because they earn a dollar or two too much to qualify for HEAP. I can almost but not quite appreciate their bitterness.

However, I don't think those are the majority of the complainers: I believe the majority actually feel bitter because though they can't qualify for HEAP, they can't get it, and no amount of explaining is going to make them believe in the value of the programs. Those people are dead wrong and don't care; psychosis driven, if you will.

And then again, with the chaos in our legal system around here, almost monthly tax increases and only lip-service for lowering taxes, an awful lot of people are just disgusted, period, with anything that comes from our federal, state and county governments.

There are so few people in those ranks it seems, who actually care nothing about their constituents and only care about the single party line, that I think the majority of us, including myself, feel unprotected and unserved by our legal system.

But our governor sits beleaguered by legal problems and suits, our DA is being sued over and over, not to count her unprofessional and personal misuse of her powers, all the way down to plea bargaining as the norm without reason, and the county legislator that suddenly has a new set of nothing but egotistical personal-serving louts.

And I mustn't forget the judges who are inept and incapable of handling themselves properly in a courtroom and especially prior to the courtroom.

So you are right; but I think we should recognize history and possibly have a little consideration for where a lot of people are coming from.
