Gun control is defining issue in political race, says Morristown resident

To the Editor:

Our elected representatives all swear an oath to uphold our Constitution and protect the individual rights of the Americans they represent.

“We the People” must hold these elected representatives accountable to their sworn oath. At all times these elected representatives should never, never vote yes on legislation that restricts these rights. If and when they do there must be repercussions.

Candidate Mike Derrick has disqualified himself instantly with his support of gun control. He must not be elected, as he clearly does not support your rights. If he’ll sellout our Second Amendment he will certainly sellout the remaining 26.

Matt Funiciello states he’s not in favor of this gun control bill. But here’s the stopper. He wishes to create more government bureaucracy with a local gun (control) board to decide if you can keep your right to keep and bear arms. This is misguided thinking.

Let’s set the record straight. The Second Amendment is the la. It need not be regulated or controlled by additional legislation. The Second Amendment has been our permit for 240 years. We do not need a gun (control) board to determine whether a resident can have a gun or not. This is simply a spin on gun control. Funiciello has disqualified himself as well.

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has now demonstrated she cannot be trusted to protect our rights. She indicates she would support the gun control bill H.R. 5611. This is a bill her former boss, Paul Ryan, and now Speaker of the House introduced and supports. Ryan has disqualified himself as well.

Again, this is your elected representative failing to uphold and protect our Constitutional rights. When we elect our representatives we give our consent for them to govern us. When these elected representatives feel they know what’s best and your rights are subject to regulation or elimination by their way of thinking it is misguided and we must withdraw our consent.

I urge everyone to call Representative Stefanik and remind her of the sworn oath to uphold and protect our Constitutional rights. The vote has yet to take place so act now to lend your voice of support for our Constitution.

Please monitor Rep. Stefanik’s vote on H.R. 5611. If she votes yes hold her accountable at the polls and eliminate her from OUR House of Representatives.

I personally recommend a write vote for Joe Gilbert, a true Constitutional Conservative. He understands how to protect our rights!
