To the Editor:
In conjunction with the Dairy Princess Parade, the Grasse River Heritage organization sponsored a special event in Heritage Park, “Come See Us in Bloom.” Except for the opening ceremony a few years ago, this was the Heritage Park’s first endeavor and the response from neighbors and visitors alike was positive, and the celebration a success.
The park is open to the public during daylight hours and is dedicated to providing comfort and tranquility, safe hiking paths for area hikers, quiet respite areas, comfortable benches and the ability to hear the songs of various birds and the soothing river melody. Throughout this summer season you will see many changes in the park: additional plantings, added benches and a covered setting to keep those rays from causing you discomfort, so please feel free to explore.
But most of all, this note is to thank the parties that helped put our June program together. We could not have provided this special event without the assistance of Krista Briggs and the Animee Club for providing story tellers, and face painters; the Kof C for donating tables and chairs; Don Brown for graciously offering to take children on tours of the island while providing information on local trees; Linda Casserly for assisting us with maps to tour the Islands; Linda McQuinn for advice and support; Jeff Proulx from Save-A-Lot in Potsdam, for donating frozen treats; the Hoot Owl for helium to fill our balloons; Traci Fordham-Hernandez and Mary Ann Narenkivicius for their artistic skill as face painters; Peter Wykoff for his photographs and expertise on the park’s history; Louis Tremaine for coolers; David Ragan and Brien Hallahan for assistance with electricity, water and trash removal; the Potsdam Co-Op for printed seed envelopes; and the Plaindealer and North Country This Week, for much appreciated publicity.
We hope to see everyone again next year at the Dairy Princess Parade in June and during the activities associated with the 50th anniversary of the Rushton Canoe Races in May.
Thank you again to all who supported this event.
