Government has no place in business, says Morristown man

To the Editor:

I will always contend government has no business in business.

First, government has no money of its own it takes it from you under many disguises. Second, it allows government to pick winners and losers. This more often than not leaves the taxpayer as the loser. Third, it opens the door wide for the crony capitalism we see running rampant through New York state.

The best examples are Start Up New York and the Regional Economic Development bull beef that allows Cuomo to hand pick his winner’s and loser’s (All his legislation allows this to happen).

Believe me when I say those running this state, starting at the top ending at the bottom (Russell), do not have your freedom and liberty in mind at all. It does not serve their best interest which is always power and greed. These elected officials do not grasp the concept that they work for us.

What they see as feel good legislation, that does nothing but spend, spend, spend, in wasteful ways that makes us all cringe. I am against all feel good legislation. I am for legislation that actually, in the real world, does good when it comes to my tax dollars. The waste is enormous therefore your taxes are, you guessed it, enormous.

I was glad to see the Massena Town councilors are skeptical as well they should be. I’m sure they already know how this works but for public view here is what a public-benefit corporation means: Public-benefit corporations are a specific type of corporation that allow for public benefit to be a charter purpose in addition to the traditional corporate goal of maximizing profit for shareholders. Depending on the country they may also be known as crown corporations, statutory corporations, or government owned corporations having monopoly over a specific service or market.

So, in short, if the town council allows this to happen Big Brother will run the show going forward. Of course, Addie Russell, the same legislator that gave us the “Un-SAFE Act wants to strip away a little more of the power of “We the People.”

How did the government winner/loser go for Alcoa? Do the math. $100,000,000 to Alcoa to stay. This breaks down to approximately $47,620 taxpayer dollars per employee for 3 ½ years leaving taxpayers on the hook for paying a private employers employees’ wages.

Never wonder why our debt is unending and escalating at a frantic pace. Add that to the grandkids national debt be sure to let them know Cuomo and his policies are responsible for this. Let us allow the free market to decide winners and losers.
