To the Editor:
On Oct. 6 the FLO Foundation held their first major fundraiser in Norwood. The FLO Foundation was established when the inability to find wildlife rehabilitator in St. Lawrence County came to my attention.
Although we’ve only been in existence for a few months, we’ve made great progress. With a small, dedicated group of animal lovers, we continue to grow. After a bake sale, monetary donations, and the 5K walk, we’ve raised $1,265 at the walk, we had six walk/runners and we raised $940 through pledges and donations.
I’d like to take the time to thank all who were involved in this event. Thank you to Jill LaCoss, Donna McDonald, Sharon Gushlaw, Hannah Roy, Sharon Bishop, Paul and Amber LaShomb for collecting pledges; Thank you to the volunteer who helped out, Paula McGargar, Kathy Ploof, Maggie Gautheir and Debbie LaShomb; Thank you Gandy Dancer’s rest, their patrons and families, Frenchie’s Chevrolet, Norwood American Legion, Cappiones, and Mayor of Norwood Jim McFadden, for their generous donations and use of the municipal building. And lastly, a big thank you to all walkers and runners, because without you and your support this wouldn’t be possible.
All donation collected will be used to aide local wildlife rehabilitators in all aspects of animal care. Also we hope to be able to sponsor someone interested in becoming a rehabilitator. We will be hosting a public forum in November at Clarkson University with guest speaker Amy Quimet from North bangor. This forum will be free and open to the public. Further details will be posted in the local papers about tim/date and exact location with directions.
Anyone interested in joining our small group can contact david LaShomb at 353-2082. Any monetary donations can be sent to North Country Savings Bank, Potsdam, NY, 13676 in care of the FLO Foundations.
