To the Editor:

The Friends of the Nature Center in Massena have many to thank for their success this fall.

Since staff returned to work at the end of July, programs have been met with great success.

Much of this has relied on volunteer help and aid from community organizations.

The Alcoa Foundation awarded Friends a $15,000 grant to support its “Get Green & Get Wild” Environmental Education program, which will also make it possible to replace some of the snowshoe equipment lost in the March 2010 fire.

TJX Foundation awarded Friends a $5,000 grant for program support and presented this at the Massena TJ Max grand re-opening.

Our local Alcoa employees recently came out to volunteer at our “Fall Clean-up Day” and made us eligible for a $3,000 Action Grant.

More than 35 people came out to work in the cold, pouring rain to get the trails ready for fall and winter activities. We also wish to thank Seaway Timber Harvesting for their donation and delivery of wood chips.

We continue to move forward, working hard to bring the Nature Center activities back to what they once were.

With the help of volunteers and support from area organizations we will be back in the paper soon, with more fantastic news! Keep posted on our website: www.nynaturecenter.org
