To the Editor:
Did you grow up in a household where someone sang in French? Do you remember any French or French Canadian musicians playing fiddles or accordions or harmonicas for dances or other gatherings in your town?
I’m seeking information on French-language songs and music that found its way to the Northern NY area, past and present, for an upcoming project with Canton’s Traditional Arts in Upstate New York (TAUNY).
I’m really interested in learning about people of French or French Canadian descent who ended up in the region and had some kind of tradition of informal singing and/or playing, even if just around home.
I welcome all ideas and information at dave@daveruch.com or 716-884-6855.
